Attorney Jeff Cash representing Estacado Systems

Tekelec Acquires Estacado Systems, LLC

Dallas, TX. (USA) February 14, 2008. Estacado Systems, a software development company instrumental in the creation of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), has sold substantially all of its assets to North Carolina-based Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), a global leader in core multimedia session control and network intelligence.

"As the world leader in signaling, Tekelec is known for innovation and aggressive R&D investment," said Frank Plastina, president and CEO of Tekelec. "As networks continue to migrate, our customers depend on us to provide them with the industry's most advanced signaling solutions. With this acquisition, we're extending our depth in SIP-based intellectual property - bringing some of the industry's most talented and well-known SIP experts in house - to accelerate the development of next-generation and IMS solutions for our customers."  Attorney Jeff Cash with CKPT LLP, a Dallas law firm that represented Estacado, added, " This is a great combination of an extremely talented team with superior technology and an established leader in the industry.  Together, they should do great things."

Ron Chambers, Ajay Deo, Ben Campbell, Adam Roach and Robert Sparks established Estacado Systems in 2004 and are key players in the industry, promoting SIP as the broadly accepted standard for next-generation signaling. They continue to serve on the SIP Forum and chair several Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) working groups, along with authoring over 20 Requests for Comment (RFCs). Their deep expertise also includes SIMPLE-based presence and instant messaging and broadband VoIP networking. In addition, they have substantial experience in related technologies, such as 3GPP IMS subsystems. The core team also contributed to the design, development and deployment of one of the earliest IMS networks in the United States.

Tekelec leverages its global leadership in core multimedia session control and network intelligence to ensure scalable, secure and highly available communications. The company's leading signaling solutions enable the inter-working of different network applications, technologies and protocols, providing a smooth transition to next-generation networks. Corporate headquarters are located near Research Triangle Park in Morrisville, N.C., U.S.A., with research and development facilities and sales offices throughout the world.
